As the school year comes to a close, there is a lot to be proud of across Nordonia. This time of year gives us a chance to pause and take in what our students and staff have done, while also looking ahead to what comes next.
Across the district, our focus has stayed the same. Support students. Keep learning moving forward. Stay connected to our families and community. That work shows up in each building in different ways.
At Nordonia High School, the final weeks of the year carry a lot of meaning. Seniors are getting ready to graduate and take their next steps. Underclassmen are finishing exams and wrapping up the year. Along the way, students continue to find ways to stand out. This year, the drama department earned eight Dazzle Award nominations, the most in school history. Freshmen were also recognized for leadership through the Freshman Pride Awards, which helps set the tone early in their high school experience. These moments show students what is possible when they get involved and take ownership of their school.
At Nordonia Middle School, the focus has been on finishing strong. Students worked through state testing while staying involved in school life. One moment from this month stands out. At a track meet, a group of students lined the track to cheer on a peer as he ran. No one asked them to do it. They just did it. That is the kind of culture we want in our schools. Students supporting each other and finding ways to lift each other up.
At Lee Eaton, students continue to grow as they prepare for middle school. Fifth-grade students took part in the Bodywise program, learning about health and development in a way that helps them understand themselves and others. These are the years when students begin to change, and the work being done helps them move forward with confidence.
At Rushwood, learning extends beyond the classroom. Students recently attended a trip to Playhouse Square, giving them a shared experience they will remember. The building is also working with families to improve the playground, with new features planned for the summer. That kind of partnership shows what can happen when a school and its community work together.
At Northfield, the end of the year has been full. Families have been in the building for events, students have completed testing, and staff have spent time planning for next year. Even when challenges come up, the focus stays the same. Take care of students and keep families informed. That steady approach builds trust over time.
At Ledgeview, the work in the classroom continues to show results. Students completed their spring assessments and showed growth from the start of the year. Teachers are already planning for next year, making sure students are placed where they can continue to learn and grow. It is a reminder that progress happens over time.
Across the district, we are also preparing for one of the events that brings our community together each year. Miles of Smiles, which many will remember as our Special Olympics event, will take place this month at the high school stadium. This year, more than 500 student-athletes will take part.
This day is about more than competition. Students participate in events throughout the stadium, supported by staff, classmates, and volunteers. You will see students cheering for one another, helping each other across the finish line, and celebrating each event. For many families, this is one of the most meaningful days of the year. It gives every student the chance to take part, be recognized, and feel the support of the entire community.
If you have never attended, it is worth your time. It is a chance to see what makes Nordonia special. Students, staff, and families coming together for one purpose.
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, I want to thank our families, staff, and students. The support we receive from this community makes a difference every day. It allows us to stay focused on what matters most.
We will finish this year strong. And we will be ready to do it again next year.
