When students leave for summer break, many people assume our schools become quiet until August. The truth is, summer is one of the busiest times of the year.
Across Nordonia Hills, our maintenance and custodial teams are repairing buildings, replacing concrete and asphalt, completing roof projects, and preparing classrooms for another year. Our technology staff is upgrading systems and hiring new team members. Our treasurer's office is closing one fiscal year while opening the next. Administrators are interviewing candidates, finalizing schedules, planning professional development, and preparing for the first day of school.
At the same time, our curriculum team is reviewing programs, strengthening literacy supports, and refining interventions to help every student succeed. Our pupil services staff is preparing for students with specialized needs, coordinating services, and making sure supports are in place before school begins.
Summer also reminds me how fortunate we are to live in a community that values its schools. Safety Town once again welcomed more than 100 incoming kindergarten students thanks to the work of the Nordonia Hills Rotary Club, our police and fire departments, the YMCA, district staff, and many volunteers. It's a great example of what happens when a community comes together for its children.
This summer has also allowed us to continue planning for the future. We're moving through the due diligence process on a potential property for future district needs while also reviewing preliminary state report card data that points to continued academic growth. Those efforts reflect two priorities that go hand in hand: maintaining strong schools today while planning responsibly for tomorrow.
I hope our students are enjoying a well-deserved break with family and friends. Before long, buses will be back on the roads, classrooms will be full again, and another school year will begin.
Until then, please know that while our buildings may be quieter, the work never really stops. Every project completed this summer is another step toward providing the best possible experience for the students and families of Nordonia Hills.
