December brings a special kind of energy to Nordonia Hills. As the days grow shorter, our buildings fill with art, music, service projects, and the feeling of community that makes this district what it is. I want to share some of the events happening across our schools this month and take a moment to recognize two outgoing members of our Board of Education.
Our Winter Arts Festival returns this month, and it continues to be one of the most meaningful traditions in our district. Students from every grade level will showcase their work through music, art, and performance. It’s a night that reminds all of us how talented our students are and how hard our staff works to bring these opportunities to life. You can feel the pride in the room every year.
Across the district, our buildings are also leading seasonal giving efforts. The Giving Trees in our elementary schools, coat drives, and winter-wear collections are already helping families prepare for the colder months. These projects grow each year because our staff, students, and families continue to step up for one another.
Classrooms are spending time on December lessons that help students learn about winter traditions from many cultures. These conversations build understanding and connection, and they help students appreciate the diversity that exists across Nordonia.
Behind the scenes, our staff continues the steady work that sets up the second half of the school year. Curriculum alignment, literacy work, and intervention planning continue across grade levels. Our technology, maintenance, and safety teams are preparing our buildings for winter weather and increased activity. A lot of this work happens quietly, but it matters.
This month also brings a transition on our Board of Education. I want to offer a sincere thank-you to outgoing board members Matt Kearney and Amy Vajdich. Both brought unique strengths to the table and showed a clear commitment to our students and community. Matt’s thoughtful approach and steady perspective helped guide discussions around governance and long-range planning. Amy’s understanding of curriculum and student needs added depth to our decision-making and helped keep us focused on the classroom. Their service has made an impact, and we wish them the very best moving forward.
As we prepare for winter break, I hope everyone in our community finds time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the moments that matter most. Thank you for supporting our students and staff during this busy time of year.
